The depth and richness achieved with oil paints is unmatched in any other media. In this workshop students will learn oil painting basics and become familiar with paint, mediums, brushes and surfaces. Value, color theory and composition will be covered. Bring an apron and a container to transport wet paintings. All other materials will be supplied.

Alla Prima Still Life in Oils with Jan Wier

Instructor: Jan Wier
You will be working alla prima style, wet on wet, in oils from life to create still life paintings. Focus will be on color work – building layers of transparent colors, and working towards the opaque layers to create work that glows with luminous color and paint quality. Students must bring their own supplies.
Materials List

Always hungry for color, pattern, light, and harmony in her painting, Jan seeks to reflect the grace notes of welcome that people desire in their homes and lives – that well placed cherished vase, fresh flowers, or perhaps even a happy cupcake! Her paintings are done in oil on canvas or board with the luscious use of creamy oil paint. Her style is loose and impressionistic with nothing too perfect; life is more interesting that way. Jan’s goal is to have her artwork bring a heartbeat of joy, color, and light to life.
